Not only can SpotCrime’s database map crime, it can also provide simple analytics of those crimes. This feature is easily accessed by, first, clicking on the state and then clicking on the red, circle like figure next to the crime map link. Analytics can provide you with some interesting information such as a pie chart of crimes by type for the past week and the current week. Also, it provides a crime graph that tracks the number of crimes over the last two months. An example of this type of graph is below.
This graph tracks the number of crimes in Baltimore county by date for the past two months. It allows you to see the trends in crime. What is most interesting about this graph is that one can see that the peaks as well as some of the troughs of the graph coincide between the two months. I tried to see if those peak were all on the same day however, there was no trend between the day and number of crimes.
