I stopped by our Toronto page today, and I was surprised to see so many of our robbery icons on the map. There have been over 300 reports of robberies in Toronto since the beginning of the year.
After clicking on the details and reading about several of these crimes, many of them involve the victim being approached by an unknown male assailant and violently accosted and then robbed of cash and valuables. The majority of these crimes involved some kind of weapon, usually a gun or knife.

SpotCrime, the largest crime data collector, is now sharing data with the West Haven Police Department. They are the first police department to host a SpotCrime map widget directly on their website. Residents of West Haven, Connecticut can view the latest crime incidents for the city and around their address.
The map widget on the WHPD website is an achievement that further upholds the SpotCrime credo. “SpotCrime was founded on the principle that information is power and it is the right of every citizen to have easy access to crime information in their neighborhood,” says SpotCrime founder and President, Colin Drane.
The Belleville Police Department, another police department that provides data to SpotCrime regularly, has a link to SpotCrime on their website.
SpotCrime is a free service, and does not charge police departments or users to map crime data. We send out free daily SMS and email alerts, and also have Twitter feeds for each city that we cover.
